Betty Franco has been in childcare service for over 25 years. We sat down and asked her questions about her experience, the ups, the downs, and what makes The Impeccable Nanny Agency such an outstanding Nanny agency.

1. Why did you get involved with childcare?

I’ve been in childcare service for 25+ years. I’ve always loved kids. Growing up in Trinidad, I took care of children and continued to when I moved to the United States. I love meeting new people; there are so many wonderful families. I consider the kids I Nanny as my own and love them as my own. I also enjoy the freedom being a Nanny gives you, like being able to go to the park or take them places. I still keep in touch with families I no longer work with. The families also invite me to the children’s concerts, sport events, birthday parties, and graduations.

2. How long have you been a caregiver?

I’ve been in childcare service for 25+ years.

3. What is the most rewarding part of the job?

The most rewarding part of the job is when a kid comes to hug you and tells you they love you. You get to watch them grow up from a baby to an adult. There are two kids that I took care of that are in their early twenties who call me their second mom and they sent me flowers for my birthday and Mother’s Day. I love keeping in touch with them.

4. What is the hardest part of the job?

If you do not have proper communication between you and the parents on routines and how to discipline the kids, this can make the job hard.  Also, potty training some kids is easy, and then there are those who give you a hard time, but it is rewarding when they are potty trained.

5. What is your favorite activity to do with the children?

Oh, I have so many. I love arts and crafts. In the beginning of summer, I do a tie-dye T-shirt event; we invite the kids’ friends. They love it and wear the shirt all summer. I also love holiday events like Easter egg hunts, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Christmas. I like doing crafts that the parents can keep and use; for example, we made the kids’ hand prints on an apron one year. The kids always look forward to what craft they can make.

6. What is your favorite age to work with and why?

I love working with all ages. Each age has a precious moment. You watch them learn to be independent. When they accomplish something or reach a milestone, you have so much pride knowing you helped them get to it. There are so many special moments.

7. What advice do you have for somebody who is looking into getting involved with childcare?

First, you have to love children. You need patience and understanding. You need to know how to deal with children. Also, when going into somebody’s home, you need to respect their privacy and that they’re allowing you in their home. Also, respect that they are working parents. Give them enough notice if you have doctor appointments, vacation, etc. so that they can make proper arrangements for when you are absent on that day. Loving children is the most important part. A child is not a piece of paper; they’re a little human being with feelings just like us.

8. What makes The Impeccable Nanny Agency different from other childcare services?

I had never heard of The Impeccable Nanny Agency. I was looking for a job because of COVID and found them on indeed.com. I sent in the application and they responded the next day. They were so professional and answered me immediately. Within three days, I was interviewed and Facetime interviewed with potential clients. I was so impressed with how they dealt with everything. Other agencies hadn’t even responded yet. I always tell all of my friends in the Nanny service about The Impeccable Nanny Agency and how great they are. I love them!

9. Homemade baby food: how to make it and why it’s important

The family I am working with didn’t want their child eating store-bought baby food, so it was agreed that I would make homemade baby food. It’s really easy: I would just steam the fruit or vegetables until they were soft enough and mash it up. Now we’re in the finger-food stage. I steam the fruits or vegetables until they’re soft enough for the child to chew. We’ve tried corn, spaghetti squash, peas, and apples. Right now, I’m working on how to make chicken soft enough and without any seasonings that they will enjoy.
